Missionaries to Australia

Hello, we are the Thorpe family, newly approved missionaries to the country of Australia.  Our sending church is the Pleasantview Baptist Church, Arlington Texas, pastored by Rev. Jimmy McNeil.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior at the age of six in Sunday school. My wife Beverly was saved at a Christian summer camp at the age of twelve. After we graduated from High School, Beverly and I were married. Ten days later I went active duty in the United States Army. While at our second duty assignment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Lord touched our hearts and led us to a church to attend and raise our children in.

It was there, at Layton Chapel Baptist Church, in North Carolina, Pastored by Steve Swagger, we were both baptized in 2001 and began to serve the Lord.  A year and a half later we were re-assigned to Hawaii. The Lord guided us to Oahu Baptist Church, which was then pastored by missionary Skip Woodfin. Both our children were saved and baptized during this time. The Lord continued to work in our hearts and we surrendered to be missionaries to the people of Australia.  Two years later we left the Army and enrolled in the Arlington Baptist College, in Arlington Texas, to prepare our lives for the Lord’s work.

We visited the Chapman family in July, 2007 for a two week survey trip. We are planning to work with the Chapman family, or the Marshall family for our first term in Australia. This will help us get to know the customs and culture of the people.  We are so excited about the possibilities of how the Lord will use our families to reach more of the lost people of the Northern Territory of Australia.

It is our desire, while on deputation, to make it our ministry of visiting different churches and sharing our burden with the church. It is our prayer that God will use us to minister to our host churches and that some would surrender their lives to serve the Lord. Please pray with us that God would direct us to the prayer and financial partners that we need while we are on deputation. Please enjoy visiting our website and getting to better know our family.
